About the Program
Established in 2012, the LSUHSC-NO Physician Assistant program is a graduate program within the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Allied Health Professions. The program is located in New Orleans, Louisiana.
With a focus on primary care, the LSUHSC-NO PA program awards a Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree following 29 months of intensive academic and clinical training. Of the 29 months, the 17-month academic phase is conducted in New Orleans with state-of-the-art training equipment and facilities. The 12 month clinical experience is conducted at a variety of sites throughout Louisiana.
The LSUHSC-NO Master of Physician Assistant Studies Program will be a leader in the education of competent, compassionate, health care providers providing access to care for the people of Louisiana.
The Mission of the LSUHSC-New Orleans Master of Physician Assistant Studies Program is to recruit and educate individuals of the highest quality from diverse backgrounds to provide evidence-based, patient-centered healthcare to the people of Louisiana.
Goals. The LSUHSC-New Orleans Master of Physician Assistant Studies Program is committed to:
- Recruit highly qualified applicants for enrollment as students in the LSUHSC-New Orleans Physician Assistant Program
- Obtain accreditation-continuing status, develop and maintain a standard of excellence for the program
- Develop and maintain a curriculum that promotes a 90% or better graduation rate for students entering the LSUHSC-New Orleans Physician Assistant Program
- Develop and maintain a curriculum that produces a PANCE rate first-time pass rate above the national average.
Master of Physician Assistant Studies
Our accredited Master of Physician Assistant Studies program at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center- New Orleans provides classroom, laboratory, simulations and clinical rotations that prepare graduates for careers as physician assistants.
The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC- PA) has granted Accreditation-Continued to the LSUHSC-NO program.
The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) has granted Accreditation-Continued status to the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Physician Assistant Program – New Orleans sponsored by Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center- New Orleans. Accreditation- Continued is an accreditation status granted when a currently accredited program is in compliance with the ARC-PA Standards .
Accreditation remains in effect until the program closes or withdraws from the accreditation process or until accreditation is withdrawn for failure to comply with the Standard s. The approximate date for the next validation review of the program by the ARC-PA will be March 2027. The review date is contingent upon continued compliance with the Accreditation Standards and ARC-PA policy.
